3rd Annual Summer Classes at Dawn's: Raley's Shopping Center, 13384 Lincoln Way, Auburn. Each class, every other week beginning in June, is from 9 - 12 noon. There is a lecture, lesson and demonstration followed by a critique of everyone's homework during the next class meeting. Then another lecture, lesson, demo, and critique. There will be 2, 6 week sessions for both the Tuesday evening class and the Thursday morning class. You may register for one or both sessions at one time. If not, call the school to confirm your registration. If the class is filled by the time you register, call the school to get onto the waiting list. Tuesday classes: 6 - 9 PM, St. Lukes Episcopal Church basement. Park in the shared parking lot with the California Welcome Center but do not park at the (signed) designated spaces for the Welcome Center. Go through the cyclone fence gate. The classroom is on the right as you go into the building. Dates are: Sept 5 - October 10 & October 17 - November 28. (No classes Thanksgiving week.)
Thursday Classes: 9 AM - 12 noon. Same place. Dates are Sept 7 - October 12 & October 19 - November 30. (No class on Thanksgiving!)
There will be a lesson, lecture and demonstration in each class. The second class will begin with a critique of the homework for the week after which there will be another lesson, lecture and demonstration and homework. (One painting per critique, please.)
You are welcome to visit Sonja's watercolor studio (at her home) Nov 10, 11, & 12, and peruse her many paintings, cards, calendars, and prints. Since Sonja paints between 80-100 paintings a year you can open her flat file drawers and see the category you are most interested in: Ocean, Flowers, Landscapes, Snow, Trees, Still life, People, and a lot more. Hours are 10 - 5 PM each day. Most everything will be for sale.

Sonja's 10th tour with French Escapade will take you to the French Alps. Imagine opening your hotel drapes to see Mont Blanc welcoming you to another day in beautiful France. Each day we will be visiting and painting in a different location, among which will be Chamonix, Annecy, and Chanaz, where we will watch walnut oil being made on an old "grist" mill run by a waterwheel outside the stone small building. We'll go to an open market to see how the locals shop and try their food and wines.
You will be picked up (and dropped off at the end of the 8 days) at a designated destination. Included are your accommodations, most meals, entrances to sites, air conditioned van, transfers, interpreter, and your watercolor lessons. Not included is airfare, gratuities, and personal expenses.

This popular watercolor painting teacher will do an 8 day workshop June 9 - 16, 2017 for a small group of eager and excited people. We'll visit castles, gardens in the wine region of France. Home base is near Tours, France, in the Loire Valley. We will visit the last home of Leonardo di Vinci who was offered a castle by the (then) King of France if he would leave Italy and come to France. Here he invented, painted, and created many masterpieces; we will tour the museum and paint in the gardens plus sketch/paint in a different location every day. I am returning, for perhaps the last time, to volunteer-teach watercolor painting at Yosemite National Park. Each day, just before 10 AM, I will take people to a different location to paint; in inclement, cold or damp weather, we will meed indoors at the Art Center (near the Yosemite Village Store). You may register in advance or at the Art Center for as many days as you wish - from 1 - 6 days. Registration fee is $15.00 per day. Classes are from 10 AM - 2 PM, but I usually am back at the Art Center around 3:40 or 4 PM. Bring a sack lunch, art supplies (you may purchase additional supplies at the Center), hat, chair, sunglasses, a drink and painting water. Check Online with Yosemite Conservancy for more information. The following week, I pack up my gear to teach in Yosemite, but I will have many original paintings in my studio that I have done on location in the past. Just ask me to see the portfolios - Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, Merced River, blooming dogwood, and some lessor historical scenes from there.

I will be teaching my 8th Watercolor Paint-Away with French Escapade - October 3 to 10, 2015. This custom tour is open to only 10 participants. Show up at the Art Activities Center for registration and current painting location. Sonja will take everyone to a different location every day around the park. Blooming dogwood at it's peak, wild azaleas, native iris bursting, abundant waterfalls and swollen rivers will be our painting subjects. At the time of this posting, Yosemite Conservancy is asking $10. per day for lessons; all money collected stays in the Center to keep it active.
