2009

Paintings on exhibit:

Auburn Old Town Gallery (address below).  Please come to see my new display on the wall straight ahead when entering the gallery.  Can't miss it!  I have Winter scenes, new drink coasters, and an assortment of cards and prints.  Look for my boxed collections of 4 assorted cards with either my Hummingbird series or the California series. If you are interested in my hand painted silk scarves, you will have to see me in my studio since they no longer are at the gallery.

2009 Paint-Aways

Belgium:  August 14 – 21, 2009

Workshop filled

Open to 7 painters who want a fabulous and beautiful trip based in our private farmhouse in Namur, in the center of Belgium.  We will visit, paint, and sketch the fields and flowers of Flanders, the beaches and sea, the windmills and canals of Bruges and of course, taste Belgian chocolate, beer, waffles, and sea food.  We will also enjoy seeing hand made lace, the quaint buildings, view famous Flemish painters like Rubens and Brueghel, plus do a little shopping here and there.  The current price of $2890. per person excludes air fare to Belgium, but does include all transfers from and to Brussels, land transportation, housing, most meals prepared by our own chef (including a champagne reception), entrance fees, and more.  For additional information, please check out my Belgium itinerary from www.frenchescapade.com.

Asilomar Watercolor Workshop: October 11 - 15, 2009  Registration forms for this workshop will be printed in late January, 2009.   This will be my 27th annual workshop in Pacific Grove, between Monterey and Carmel, California.  We paint on location (weather permitting) and/or inside in our own conference room.  The package includes all meals, housing, instruction and critiques with a demonstration and lecture every day.

Fall color in Yosemite,  October 26 - 31:  FREE. CANCELED due to budget cuts.  The Art Center will only have classes from mid May to September and only from Wednesday to Saturday.  Check their schedule to see who is still teaching.  October was completely dropped from their calendar, but I will be kept on their list for next year.  Drop-in classes in beautiful Yosemite National Park.  I will be taking people out every day, leaving from the Art Activity Center near the Village Store.  Just show up at the Center around 9:30 AM, sign the daily sheet, and follow me outside at 10 AM. We will use the free Valley Shuttle to the locations.  Bring your paints and equipment or buy what you need at the Art Center.  When I am there, my cards, prints, daily demonstrations and a few framed originals will be at the Center; part of the sales will benefit the Yosemite Association and enable the art program to continue.  The campgrounds will still be open at that time for those who love the outdoor experience.  Best of all, the river will be low, the reflections fabulous, and fall color everywhere!  I painted this scenery in October 2007 & 2008, and believe me, it is spectacular!  You don't need to reserve with me, just show up in Yosemite!  The complete listing of all instructors for 2009 will be posted on their www.Yosemite.org website.

Other:

The Yosemite Association will be using one of Sonja's watercolors as a tee shirt design that they will be selling to promote the free art lessons program.  It has already been going on for 25 years and is the only one of its kind in the National Park system.  We teachers and most of the staff are volunteers; this is a great program to support.  Look for the tee shirts sometime in 2009.

Sonja is on the Auburn Art Walk committee, a PlacerArts activity.  If you would like the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful free community event - either on the committee or as an exhibitor, please contact Sonja. There are 4 Art Walks each year, always the second Thursday of April, June, August and October with a reception at each venue, where you can meet the artists, from 6 - 9 PM.  Enjoy the free maps, free music, and free shuttle bus during the Art Walks in Old Town, Downtown and all around town!  Great event!  Everyone loves this one.   Pick up a free Orientation for Artists packet for yourself or an artist friend at The Arts Building, 808 Lincoln Way, Auburn and get answers to all your Art Walk questions.  For dates and more information, please call  PlacerArts at: (530) 885-5670.   If you are interested in being an exhibitor or a volunteer committee member, let me know. ___________________________________________________________

For inquiries, general or specific information on my paintings, please email me using the contact page.  Thanks for visiting!  And tell a friend!         Sonja
